Amazon Prime Video has a huge international library — Korean thrillers, Spanish dramas, Japanese anime, Indian blockbusters — but its built-in subtitle selection is often limited to a handful of languages. If your language isn't in the list, you're stuck. Sublo solves this: it's a free Chrome extension that translates Amazon Prime Video subtitles in real time into more than 30 languages, with no account required and no complicated setup.
What You Need
- Google Chrome — Sublo is a Chrome extension and works only in Chrome.
- An Amazon Prime Video subscription (any plan).
- The Sublo extension installed — get it at subloapp.com.
No Sublo account needed for the free tier. You can be up and running in under a minute.
Step-by-Step: Translating Amazon Prime Video Subtitles
Step 1 — Install Sublo
Go to subloapp.com and click Get Sublo. You'll be taken to the Chrome Web Store listing. Click Add to Chrome, then confirm with Add extension. The Sublo icon will appear in your Chrome toolbar within seconds.
Step 2 — Open Amazon Prime Video and Start Playing
Navigate to primevideo.com in Chrome and pick any show or movie. Press play. Sublo runs automatically in the background on Amazon Prime Video — no extra steps needed to activate it on the page.
Step 3 — Turn on Amazon's Built-in Subtitles
Click the speech bubble icon on the Amazon Prime Video player and select a subtitle language — English is usually the best choice since it produces the most accurate translations. Leave the subtitles on for a few seconds so Sublo can capture the subtitle stream, then you can turn them off if you prefer; Sublo's own overlay takes over.
Step 4 — Open the Sublo Panel and Select Your Language
Click the Sublo icon in your Chrome toolbar. A panel will appear with a language dropdown. Choose your target language from 30+ options — Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Polish, Turkish, and many more. Sublo uses DeepL for translation, which delivers noticeably more natural results than older machine translation tools.
Step 5 — Enable Translation
Toggle the translation switch to ON in the Sublo panel. Translated subtitles will appear on screen within a second or two, perfectly synchronized with the dialogue.
Step 6 (Optional) — Enable Dual Subtitle Mode
Want to see both the original language and the translation at once? Sublo's dual subtitle mode stacks two subtitle tracks on screen simultaneously — original on top, translation below. This is especially useful for language learners who want to connect the original phrasing with the translated meaning in real time. Toggle it on in the Sublo panel.
Which Languages Does Sublo Support?
Sublo supports over 30 languages for Amazon Prime Video subtitle translation, including:
- European: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Czech, Romanian, Hungarian, Bulgarian
- Asian: Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Arabic, Turkish
- Other: Russian, Ukrainian, and more
Full language list available on the Sublo homepage.
Does It Work for All Amazon Prime Video Content?
Sublo works with any title on Amazon Prime Video that has at least one subtitle track available. It captures the source subtitle stream and translates it — so you always need to have Amazon's own subtitles turned on (in any language) before Sublo can work. English source subtitles typically produce the best translation quality.
It works in both windowed and fullscreen mode, and both subtitle tracks remain visible when you go fullscreen.
Free vs. Pro
The free plan gives you 10 minutes of translated subtitles per day — no account or credit card required. Enough to test the experience fully. For unlimited viewing, Sublo Pro is available monthly or yearly. See pricing details here.
Other Streaming Platforms
Sublo isn't limited to Amazon Prime Video. The same extension works on Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Apple TV+, Crunchyroll, YouTube, Peacock, Hulu, Paramount+, MUBI, and Plex — all with the same real-time translation and dual subtitle features.
