How to Watch Netflix with Two Subtitles at Once

Watching Netflix with subtitles in two languages at the same time sounds like it should be built-in — but Netflix only supports one subtitle track natively. If you're learning a language or live in a bilingual household, that's a frustrating limitation.

The good news: there's a free Chrome extension called Sublo that adds dual subtitle support to Netflix (and 10+ other streaming services) in about 30 seconds.

Why watch with two subtitle tracks?

There are a few great reasons to show two languages at once:

  • Language learning — see your native language alongside the language you're learning
  • Bilingual households — both people understand without compromise
  • Translation quality check — compare how dialogue is translated between languages
  • Accessibility — hearing-impaired viewers who prefer a different language than the audio

Step 1: Install Sublo

Sublo is a free Chrome extension. Install it from the Chrome Web Store — it takes one click and requires no account or sign-up.

Step 2: Open Netflix and start playing a video

Navigate to any show or movie on Netflix and press play. Sublo works automatically in the background — you don't need to do anything special yet.

Step 3: Enable subtitles briefly

Turn on Netflix's built-in subtitles (any language) for a few seconds. This gives Sublo access to the subtitle stream. Once Sublo has loaded the subtitles, you can turn Netflix's subtitles back off — Sublo's own overlay will take over.

Step 4: Pick your two languages

Click the Sublo icon in your Chrome toolbar. You'll see two dropdown menus — one for the top subtitle and one for the bottom. Pick any two languages from 30+ options. Both subtitle tracks appear instantly, perfectly stacked on screen.

Popular combinations:

  • English + Spanish (great for English speakers learning Spanish)
  • English + Japanese (popular for anime fans)
  • German + English (for German learners)
  • French + English (for francophone learners)

Does it work in fullscreen?

Yes. Both subtitle tracks remain visible in fullscreen mode. You don't need to exit fullscreen to change languages either — click the Sublo icon anytime.

Does it work on other streaming services?

Sublo supports Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Crunchyroll, YouTube, Apple TV+, Peacock, Paramount+, Hulu, MUBI, and Plex — the same steps apply to all of them.

Free vs Pro

The free plan gives you 10 minutes of dual subtitles per day — enough to try it out. If you want unlimited viewing, Pro costs €2.89/month (billed yearly).
